Our Team

Meet Our Team

Independent. Innovative. Experienced. Authentic. Invested. These are just some of the qualities that distinguish YEAH’s dedicated team of doctors, technicians, and support team.

Here’s an introduction—in their own words—to the veterinarians who lead our practice. Among them, they have nearly 80 years of combined clinical experience:

Dr. Amie Dow

Medical director, Practice Owner

The most inspiring part of your job? Nothing is more inspiring than using my knowledge of science to help an ailing animal to heal.

Cats or dogs? Both!

The best advice I’ve ever been given: Everyone has a story.

What do you wish everyone knew before coming to YEAH? That we really love animals and treat your pets as if they were our own.

My favorite word in the English language? Banana

If I were a superhero, my superpower would be: Speed

When I was 8, I was pretty sure that when I grew up I’d be: A veterinarian

Dr. Barbara Batke

Practice Owner

The most inspiring part of your job? I’m inspired by my talented colleagues and team members. I’m so fortunate to work alongside the best and brightest people in the field.

Cats or dogs? My favorite cartoon as a kid was Catdog because I’m equally obsessed with both!

The best advice I’ve ever been given: People are born so they can learn how to live a good life, like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right? Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don’t have to stay on Earth as long.

What do you wish everyone knew before coming to YEAH? From the moment we meet you and your pet, we’re on the same team. We take your concerns and use our professional medical skills to diagnose your pet. We often partner with other talented and compassionate people to care for your pet as we would our own. That’s my promise to you and your fur baby.

My favorite word in the English language? Coffee

If I were a superhero, my superpower would be: The ability to travel back in time like Doc Brown and Marty McFly

When I was 5, I was pretty sure that when I grew up I’d be: A veterinarian. I held a baby chick in my kindergarten class and have loved animals ever since.

Dr. Sarah Kassing

The most inspiring part of your job? Seeing how amazing my colleagues and our YEAH team are, and their passion for what they do never ceases to inspire me.

Cats or dogs? It depends. If it’s a sighthound, Nordic or herding breed, absolutely dogs. Otherwise, definitely cats.

The best advice I’ve ever been given: From a quote I found years ago: “Be a hill seeker. Most of us try to avoid hills, but what’s so great about that? Think about it: flat tires, flat hair, flat returns and—the ultimate—flatlining. Life happens on the hills. They’re opportunities to prove to yourself that you’re stronger than you ever imagined. If you never attempt the ascent, you’ll never know the thrill of swooshing down the other side.”

What do you wish everyone knew before coming to YEAH? We will be as honest and transparent as possible to help you and your pet.

My favorite word in the English language? Elusive

If I were a superhero, my superpower would be: Telekinesis

When I was 5, I was pretty sure that when I grew up I’d be: A paleontologist. I’ve wanted to be one since I was 4 and I still do.

Dr. Paige Jackson

The most inspiring part of your job? The dog who has a soulmate in their person. The pet who, at the end, makes a person say, “I’m not ready but they matter more than I do.” And the dog who brings their toy to their person. Those stories are the best.

Cats or dogs? Dogs. Although I find cats phenomenal.

The best advice I’ve ever been given: Do what you can then let it go. You have only your skills and your options. You can’t carry those burdens further.

What do you wish everyone knew before coming to YEAH? If your pet isn’t number one on my to-do list, it means they’re stable.

My favorite word in the English language? Inconceivable

If I were a superhero, my superpower would be: The ability to breathe underwater

When I was 8, I was pretty sure that when I grew up I’d be: I always knew I’d be a veterinarian, but I didn’t know I’d be a doctor for more than horses.

The best piece of advice I’ve ever been given is: Do. Or do not. There is no try. – My dad (Originally Yoda)

Veterinary Technicians and Assistants

Our veterinary technicians will facilitate urgent care for your pet as soon as you arrive at our  hospital. They triage each patient efficiently and obtain pertinent medical history for the veterinarian. This vital information will indicate an appropriate plan for diagnosis and medical therapy. The veterinary technician will remain alongside your pet from treatment to discharge.

Certified Veterinary Technicians

A Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) is a graduate of an AVMA-accredited program in veterinary technology, usually leading to an Associate or Bachelor’s degree. A CVT is trained to support the veterinarian in various areas such as critical care, nursing, surgical assisting, anesthesiology, laboratory procedures, radiography, performing treatments and filling prescriptions as ordered by the veterinarian, and client education.

Emergency Veterinary Assistants

An Emergency Veterinary Assistant (ERVA) works side by side with our veterinarians and CVTs, to provide direct patient care and client communications. Our emergency veterinary assistants are highly skilled as they have worked in the profession for many years and are very experienced. Many of our ERVA’s are currently enrolled in an AVMA-accredited program or eligible to take their National and State boards.

Veterinary Assistants

A Veterinary Assistant (VA) also works side by side with our veterinarians and CVTs to provide patient care. Our VA team generally provides direct care to urgent care status patients or will assist the veterinarian or CVT if additional team members are needed for critical patient care. While many of our VA team members are enrolled in an AVMA-accredited program, they are not required to do so at the VA level.

Veterinary Technician Assistants

A Veterinary Technician Assistant (VTA) works with and supports our CVT/VA teams. Their daily tasks include supporting the cleanliness of the facility and patient care areas, stocking supplies, and organization. They may assist in restraint, handling, and taking patients to our secure yard. Many of our veterinary technician assistants are also voluntarily enrolled in an AVMA-accredited program.

Client Care Representatives

A Client Care Representative is the first line of communication you will have at Yavapai Emergency Animal Hospital. After inputting vital registration information for each patient, they present your pet to our medical team for triage, and when needed, swift emergency care. Our client care representatives maintain strong and detailed communication when your pet is seen at Yavapai Emergency Animal Hospital.
